Call for papers
The EU-PAIR 2023 Annual International Conference – 2nd Edition brings important and emerging issues concerning the trajectories of the European public administrations’ actions in responding and being resilient to challenging times, to be discussed by academics, scholars, practitioners, doctoral students, students and interested parties, during 22nd and 23rd of June at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Romania, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. Around the world, the governments and, particularly, public administrations face uncertainties and challenges as never before that require new managerial, financial, accounting, economic, organizational and policy solutions.
The theme of this year’s conference is a particularly important for the fields of public affairs and business, democracy, diplomacy, economic and social challenges, for those concerned about the functionality of the democratic values. The conference aims to be a framework for exchanging ideas, new research, solutions for the current issues. Are greatly appreciated the fundamental, theoretical, and empirical research. The conference is open to the wide public, to the academia, policy makers, practitioners, public managers, and civil society.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Gilles GRIN is the director of the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe, in Lausanne, and a lecturer at the University of Lausanne. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva as well as Master’s degrees from Yale University, the London School of Economics and the University of Lausanne. He is the author of some 70 publications (books, book chapters, and articles) devoted largely to European issues. He received the Book Prize “Mieux comprendre l’Europe” in 2022 for his book entitled “Construction européenne : la révolution d’un continent”, translated into English under the title “European Integration: A Continent in Revolution”.
Elena Dănescu holds a Ph.D. in Political Economics (1998) from the National Institute of Economic Research (INCE) of the Romanian Academy, with a thesis on the Luxembourg development model and the achievements of Pierre Werner. Previously, she obtained a DEA postgraduate diploma in international, diplomatic, and strategic relations from Paris III University and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (ASE). She began her career as a researcher at INCE and guest lecturer at ASE before becoming a researcher and diplomat in the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was involved in multiple international projects and networks, initially focusing on the European integration and transition to democracy of Central and Eastern European countries before turning her attention more particularly to the role of Luxembourg and its elites in the European integration process, in Economic and Monetary Union, in EU governance, as well as in banking history and oral history. She was a researcher in the European Integration Studies Department of the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe (CVCE), where she developed the interdisciplinary “Pierre Werner and Europe” research project (2011-2017) based on an exploration of the Werner family archives, opened for the first time for research purposes. She is duly entitled to supervise doctoral researches and she is registered as a supervisor at the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences (DSHSS)/University of Luxembourg, in the discipline „History”. She is a funding Fellow of Robert Schuman Institute of European Affairs and joined the University of Luxembourg on 1 July 2016. She is an elected member of the University Council (2018-2023), the Board of the Fondation du Mérite européen and the Council of the Fondation Jean Monnet pour l’Europe (Lausanne), and she is since many years an active member of several outstanding professional associations worldwide (EUSA, UACES, ESHET, AISPE).
Davide Antonioli is a Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Ferrara where he teaches Labour Economics, Economic policy and Economics and Management of Innovation. He holds a Ph.D. in Law and Economics form the Alma Mater – University of Bologna and as well as a Master’s degree in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Bristol (UK). His research interests are in the field of economics of innovation, environmental innovation, industrial relations and circular economy; topics on which he extensively published in peer-reviewed academic journals. He was involved, as member, in EU and national projects and he currently coordinates the IRsmart (2021-2023) project on industrial relations for smart-workers (and working out-of-office more broadly) in smart cities.
The interdisciplinarity of the EU administrative science field permits to have a broader list of subjects for debating from all areas of research. The following tracks are stated for the conference (but not limited to):
On 22nd of June the Workshop “Young Professionals in European Administrative Area” will be dedicated to students as part of Annual Conference. The activity is open to all interested students from UAIC or other universities. The workshop will be focused on themes related to the challenges of the public and private sectors during the pandemic times, being oriented to the comparative studies, analysis, case-studies, and research. The best papers presented will be published as part of Scientific Proceeding of the Conference.
PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES
The papers (maximum 2 papers/person) presented during the EU-PAIR 2023 will be double peer-reviewed for originality, clarity, significance, and scientific contributions. The accepted papers will be sent to be included into the Scientific Proceeding of the Conference and to Clarivate Analytics for being indexed. The length of the paper should be between 6 and 20 pages. The final paper should strictly follow the guidelines (see paper template).The authors will have the opportunity to publish into the following journals (in accordance with the journals requirements):
PRACTICALITIES
The language of the conference is English. The abstract and final paper must be submitted in English. The conference will be organised as hybrid event, but we strongly encourage in-person attendance for presenters.
